The View from My Place – “The Main Story”

February 17, 2021 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

Today, I freshly realized that ultimately all this “life stuff” we deal with every day, and there is sooooo much of it, is about each one of us and the Lord. As believers, that is what our life story is all about. Of course, there are other elements to the story, such as my relationship with my wife and kids, my job, my plans etc. but all those things are subplots. The main plot line of the story is what is going on between me and Jesus Christ as we process together everything else that is happening around me and in me.

No, how well I perform as a Christian is not the story. Trust is. Trust in the security of my relationship with Him – whether we are performing well in our other roles or not. Will I trust Him enough to share with Him what’s really going on in my heart? Will I believe He really knows me and still loves me? Will I trust that He is with me – even when I don’t sense His presence? Will I believe He hears me even when I don’t know what to say? The possible trust questions that arise from our daily lives are endless. Just this morning as I contemplated a situation, I was prompted to trust Him as my “shield,” versus relying on my own defenses and defensiveness.  All the circumstances of a believer are intended to refine and strengthen our trust in the love of God. The love from which nothing can separate us.

The trust between each of us and our Lord is the main story of our lives. Why? Because that is the story God the Father is “producing.” That is the story Jesus shed His blood to “star” in with us. That is the story the indwelling Holy Spirit is “directing.” And that is where the “script” (i.e Scriptures) leads us.  The End.
