Yes, the cross of Christ is primarily about our forgiveness but our forgiveness includes so much more than a pardon for sin. Forgiveness is a means to an end, not the end itself. In Jesus’s words: “Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, and to see My glory, the glory You have given Me…” (John 17:4). Jesus didn’t die for us just so we could serve Him, or be better behaved, even though those are also blessings. He died for us because He wanted each one of us to be with Him and to be part of His family. He wanted the joy of being able to share His glory, His magnificence, and His majesty with us.
We will have to wait to see His heavenly glory, but He didn’t want to wait to be with us. So, as a result of our forgiveness, we have been united with Him by His indwelling Spirit. In other words, He loves you so much He wanted to begin being with you as soon as possible.
