The View From My Place – “Too ‘Into’ You?”

January 19, 2022 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

So, yesterday I said to the Lord, “If I am too ‘into’ You, Lord, You will have to be the One to let me know it, because I won’t be able to receive it from anyone else or even detect it in myself.  [I do not mean religious activity or rituals or abandoning all earthly responsibilities and pleasures. I am referring to the treasures of knowing You personally.] To me, You are the life. Therefore, I’m going for all the “gusto” in You that is available to me in this body and in this life. Plus, I know of no biblical instruction that urges caution or restraint in pursuing You. On the contrary, I see abundant invitations to fully indulge myself. Like, “seek His face continually,” “rejoice in the Lord always” and many others, that I call ‘buffet verses.’”

And today, as if in response, this verse came to mind: “They looked to Him and were radiant and their faces will never be ashamed” (Psalm 34:8).

Those who look to the Lord will be radiant with hope, joy, peace and whatever other blessings from His infinite supply the Lord may bestow.

They will never be ashamed. Or literally, “not put to the blush.” Whatever may be the outcome of our trust in Him, we will not be ashamed. Even if we experience disappointments and setbacks and the evil one or others try to inflict “I told you so” shame upon us, like Jesus, and by the Spirit’s power we will be able to “despise the shame.” That is, to look down on the threat of feeling ashamed with a sense of inner confidence, a sense of inner awareness of God’s presence and approval, of His strength and His peace. And we will remain ever “radiant” in Him.
