There’s No Harm in Asking

August 9, 2023 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

Do you ever feel inhibited about asking the Lord for things just because you want them versus “nobler” requests like, “Help me to serve You, Lord” or to love my neighbor?

If so, my advice to you is let go and let God. Let go of your reluctance and let God be God. The Lord hasn’t put any restrictions or limitations on your asking. On the contrary, you have been invited to pour out your heart before Him, which means you need never be ashamed of any request that comes from your heart.

Yes, we can ask with wrong motives, or ask for things that aren’t good for us, or things that are not in accordance with His will. But God knows how to say “no” to our requests in a constructive manner, in a way that builds our relationship with Him. He can reassure us of His love. He can instruct us in the way we should go. He can reveal the wisdom of His “no.” Or He can say “Yes!” in a way that is beyond all that we could ask or imagine, while we are yet speaking or even before we ask.

So let go of your fears and let God fully in on your heart’s desires. You are free to be fully human and you can trust God to graciously be God.
