As magnificent as the blessing of forgiveness in Christ is – and let’s not miss how magnificent it truly is – it is only the introduction to the grace we’ve received. Forgiveness is not the whole show. It’s the hand stamp at the door, not the concert itself. It’s the welcome mat, not the feast.
We don’t have to creep over the threshold, grateful just to be let in, because Scripture gives us a very different and magnificent picture: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). Every spiritual blessing. Not just pardon, but the intimacy of His nearness. Not just cleansing, but continuous communion.
In Christ, we are invited into the warmth of His love and the personal-touch affection of a Savior who knows us by name. We are drawn into His impeccable craftsmanship, how He tailors our relationship with Him to fit the contours of our unique design and story. We are caught up in His astonishing creativity, as He weaves even our detours and disappointments into our highest good and His eternal purposes. We are never alone. His help never wavers or wanes. His companionship never fades.
We are not pardoned criminals on parole, nervously trying not to mess up again. We are royal heirs of eternal riches of His wisdom, His peace, His purposes, and the joy of being fully known. We walk in the forever favor of a Father who delights to give us the kingdom.
So today, let’s not linger at the door. Trusting in His work and His promises, let’s walk full stride, all the way in. Let’s explore the unsearchable riches of Christ, not just as recipients of mercy, but as beloved children, welcomed into abundance.
