View from My Place – “Divine Therapy”

November 20, 2024 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

When we were kids, some of our personality traits were celebrated, while others were either ignored or even punished. As we grew up, we may have learned to hide those parts of ourselves that weren’t rewarded. Traits like creativity, curiosity, sensitivity, or assertiveness—qualities that aren’t “bad” at all—may have gotten buried if our families didn’t value them. Even when we’ve left the vulnerability and dependence of childhood behind, these personal attributes can stay hidden well into adulthood or for the rest of our lives.

The magic of therapy lies in uncovering these hidden parts of ourselves. It’s like an archaeological dig that unearths buried treasure within. A good therapist can help us realize that those traits we have hidden are not flaws but integral parts of who we are. With the right support, these qualities can finally come to light, free from the fear of judgment or punishment and strong enough to thrive despite it.

Human therapy can be magical, but God also offers us that kind of safe space, and His “therapy” is divine. He already knows everything about us, what is hidden and what is expressed (Psalm 139:1-4). After all, He created us (Psalm 139:13-14). He invites us to cast all of our anxiety upon Him (1 Peter 5:7) and pour out our hearts before Him (Psalm 62:8), not just as a kind gesture, but because He knows that as we grow in assurance of His unconditional love, we will begin to increasingly unveil to Him all our “hidden” conditions. The benefit is not that He discovers us but that we discover more about Him—specifically, how deep His love is for us (Ephesians 3:18-19), His wisdom towards us (James 1:5), and His power within us (Ephesians 3:20). With the guidance and empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we begin to more fully express who we were always meant to be. And beyond that, the most glorious reward is that we deepen our experiential knowledge of God’s love, which in turn creates even stronger affection and trust in Him and a deeper relationship with Him (Philippians 1:9).

Take the step to embrace the Lord’s free therapy with unlimited sessions under divine care. Allow yourself to uncover the buried treasures within and grow in the light of His unconditional love and acceptance. Start today—your truer self is waiting to be discovered.
