Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). This morning, the phrase “light of life” opened a window, and fresh air wafted in to refresh my spirit.
The promise is for the light of life. Light that leads us to the path of life. These are not pithy sayings or abstract philosophical ideas, but life truths that liberate, refresh, instruct, and enrich. They reveal the unsearchable riches of Christ: treasures more real than gold, yet untouched by rust or decay and 100% secure from theft. These riches do not merely pad our comforts; they expand our capacity for fullness.
And the fullness is not a grocery store shelf of spiritual products labeled “joy,” “grace,” or “peace” that we throw in our shopping cart. It’s the fragrance of Christ’s presence – like the cologne of a loved one lingering in the room, the warmth of a hug, or the blessing of a timely, personal gift. These are not separate from our relationship with Him; they are its outgrowths. They are the felt evidence of a thriving connection with the living and ever-present God.
These life truths transcend. They marvel. They mystify. And they endure forever.
This is not a clever or creative way to look at things. It’s not a pep talk. It’s the truth Jesus died to make our reality, so that His fullness could be felt in every facet of our lives, whatever those lives may look like. Because the light of life doesn’t depend on our circumstances; it reveals His presence within them.
