Today, I realize that my mind and heart can function on separate planes. While my mind engages with the demands of daily life, my heart can dwell in a state of thanksgiving without my conscious awareness.
Just as a fragrance burner releases a pleasant aroma without constant attention, my heart in praise mode can emit a continual sense of gratitude and worship that subtly influences my entire being.
The subconscious effects of the aroma of thanks may be elements of the fruit of the Spirit, such as a joyful spirit, inner peace, patience, or kind actions. And when I notice these effects, my mind and mouth can join in the celebration until they return to the tasks at hand. Therefore, I lift up these words to the Lord:
Though my mind be drawn to earthly callings, May my heart, O Lord, ever serenade You, With songs of praise and whispers of thanks, A ceaseless melody to Your boundless grace.
