View from My Place – “Time, Attention and Vulnerability”

July 31, 2024 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

(Occasionally, we will be featuring other writers who are willing to share the view from their place as they journey with Christ).

By Terri Nash Duncan

My husband was always a very good cook, but I didn’t realize just how good until after we were married. I think he felt a little safer giving me more tips and constructive criticism about my cooking after he “put a ring on it.”

In relationships, our depth of understanding and knowledge of a person depends on our commitment of time, attention, and vulnerability. What lies between knowing someone’s favorite color and foods, and confidently knowing how they would respond in a given situation, is time, attention, and vulnerability.

I have so much more time, attention, and vulnerability to invest in my relationship with Jesus Christ. He is steadfast and unmovable, unchanging and eternal.  If I choose time, attention, and vulnerability in our relationship, I will grow closer to Him.

My dad would often share the quote, “If you feel far away from God, guess who moved.” He has always been right here with me, attentive and vulnerable. (He even “put a ring on it.”) Every day is my opportunity to reciprocate.
