View from My Place – “What’s He Up To?”

December 3, 2025 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

I began my morning devotion today, as I often do with, “Good morning, Lord, what are You up to today, and how can I be part of it?” It’s my way of saying, “Lord, as I move through my daily activities, I want to walk with You, tag along, and help.” It’s not just a cute or creative prayer – it rests on solid biblical truth. Jesus, raised from the dead, is alive today (1 Corinthians 15:20). Because He lives, prayer is a living connection, not a ritual. I have free access to Him (Hebrews 10:19), He is affectionately attentive to me (1 Peter 5:7), and He has a plan for this world that included me from the start (Ephesians 2:10). And He just likes being with me, too (Isaiah 62:4-5).

With that in mind, my prayer emphasized “today.” All I truly have is now. We don’t know what a day will bring (Proverbs 27:1) or when we’ve lived our last (Psalm 90:12). So, I asked what His work looks like for me today. He brought a couple to mind for me to pray for and to cheer on in their love. I didn’t receive this as a small thing; it was a holy one, because it was from Him. It was His work, as significant as any other (Philippians 1:6). I wasn’t seeking something “big,” only the honor of partnering with Him. He may have other things for me today, but nothing more important. He cares about every detail of every life (Luke 12:6) and He is great enough to handle them all by Himself (Jeremiah 32:17). Our involvement is His gift to us, not His need of us.

So, my prayer for you and me is simple: “Lord, let us find joy in our fellowship with You as we receive and respond to Your assignment(s) for us today, realizing its value is not in its size but in its importance to You.”
