America, are we in trouble?
My wife and I were talking about this this morning, and the answer is yes, we are. America faces unsettling challenges that threaten its unity, stability, and future—from deep political divisions and economic uncertainty to global crises. Regardless of our political persuasion, I think it’s safe to say none of us feel particularly good about the mood and conditions of our country today, or about how they affect our relationships.
Have we been here before? Always! From the Revolutionary War to the Civil War, from world wars to the Cold War, and from the upheaval of the 1960s to the September 11th attacks and a global pandemic, this nation has never known a time without some existential threat looming “out there.” Yet here we stand—not because of superior foresight or precision engineering from any one man or party. No, it has been something far greater: a baptism in grace.
It is this grace, shed upon us by a merciful God, that has carried us through every storm. Time and time again, He has placed key players in strategic positions at critical moments—leaders who inspire, thinkers who innovate, advocates who fight for justice, and everyday, ordinary people whose quiet acts of faith and love keep the nation moving forward. His hand has worked behind the scenes, giving inspiration to spirits, wisdom to minds, and courage to hearts, weaving unity and breathing new life into the fabric of our history, even when hope seemed lost. It didn’t have to turn out that way; it wasn’t coincidence or good fortune.
I imagine Lady Liberty herself standing tall, her torch lighting the way, singing a hymn of thanksgiving:
“Your grace and mercy brought me through, I’m living each moment because of You.
And I want to thank You and praise You too.
Your grace and mercy brought me through.”
This simple praise song echoes the truth that this nation’s survival has never been by human effort. It is His grace that has guided us, sustained us, and transformed our greatest trials into moments of renewal.
As we face the challenges of today, let us not forget the source of our strength—both personally and nationally. ’Twas grace that brought us safe thus far. And grace will lead us home.
No matter how overwhelming the storms might seem, His grace is always enough—it always has been, and it always will be, until His plans for each of us and for America are complete.

Thank you Pastor Dan I’ve been telling my Daughter Rosa this same thing in a different way I truly believe if we continue to trust God and listen to our inner voice I know He talks to His own that know Him. I love the way you confirm the very thoughts of my mind. This is why I only have one Shepherd , I know where God placed me in my cry of leadersh I need only the truth to meet Him when. My time is finished
And that is why I am glad I have only one Harrietta. 🙂 Thank you, dear. My pleasure, His gift.
