Main Idea: Jesus Has You covered.
Summary of the earthly mission of Jesus Christ
I. The Christ will suffer for mankind
• Isaiah 53:5-6 (NIV) But he was pierced for our transgressions… We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
• Our sins demanded a penalty and restitution.
• The Lord graciously invited us to stay for a while at this fabulous resort He owns called Earth. And we ransacked the place! And committed all sorts of crimes on His property.
• Every one of our human frailties has created some damage.
• The only Person who ever came to this “resort” that did not go astray is the One who picked up the tab for the rest of us. Jesus.
• Jesus was the only one with the means to pay the penalty for our sin and make restitution for the damage we’ve created
II. The Christ will rise from the dead
• Peter’s sermon in Acts chapter two, he quotes Psalm 16:10, “because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay” as scriptural support for The Resurrection.
• The Resurrection of Christ makes Him distinct from all other religious leaders and holy men.
III. The Christ will offer repentance and forgiveness to all
• Perhaps Jesus also quoted the prophet Joel, where it is written in chapter 2:32, “And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”
• Whoever and wherever they may be on the planet, everyone who calls on the LORD will be saved.
• The word “repentance” can be a theological swamp, where people can get lost or fall into a quicksand of rules, but the word simply means a change of mind.
• As it relates to receiving forgiveness. It means, changing one’s mind about one’s need for a Savior and turning to Christ.
• Both repentance and forgiveness come from God. John 6:44; Acts 5:31 and 11:18.
Under the banner of forgiveness, the blessings we have in Christ are truly unfathomable.
• He’s given us peace with God. (Romans 5:8)
• He’s given us His Righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21)
• He’s given us the Holy Spirit (Joel 2:28-29)
