Introduction
On this date in 323 B.C., Alexander the Great breathed his last. His words capture the contrast between earthly conquest and eternal reward:
“A tomb now suffices him for whom the world was not enough… Bury my body and don’t build any monument. Keep my hands out so the people know the one who won the world had nothing in hand when he died.”
Paul the Apostle, by contrast, declared with confidence:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
Men of God, the question before us is: What shall we pursue? A fleeting empire, or a thriving relationship with our forever King?
How is this relevant to our roles as fathers or as father figures and mentors? The most precious thing we can impart to our sons and daughters is our example of love and faith.
A thriving relationship with God includes these faith objectives. And these apply to every man regardless of your station in life or your parenting style.
1. God’s Work in Us – Regardless of Age or Stage
- The world idolizes youth, but God sustains us in every season.
- Isaiah 46:4 – “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you.”
- Faith objective: Believe that God is still working in you.
2. Laying Up Treasures in Heaven
- Jesus calls us to pursue true wealth—eternal treasures.
- The best investment portfolio is built in obedience and relationship with Him.
- Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works.”
- Faith objective: Be intentional in storing up riches in heaven.
3. Trust in God’s Character, Not Our Desired Outcomes
- Don’t limit God to a specific outcome—trust His faithfulness.
- Abraham trusted God even when asked to sacrifice Isaac.
- David endured years of waiting before stepping into his calling.
- Psalm 18:2 – “The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer.”
- Faith objective: Trust who God is, not just what He does.
Quotes
- “We leave this world and step into eternity—not empty-handed, but carrying the faith we have kept.”

- Fight Hard, Finish Strong, and Win Big!
