Text: 1 Corinthians 1:9 (NIV) God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
Main Idea: There is not a single moment in the life of a believer when God is not being faithful to him or her.
“Faithful.” Also translated “True.” He is faithful and true to His word. To His promises. To His nature.
His faithfulness is one of the most frequently mentioned attributes of God in the entire Bible.
• Psalm 91:4 (NIV) He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
• Psalm 119:75 (NIV) I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
• 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV) But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
The evil one’s primary lie: “God is not faithful and therefore cannot be trusted.”
• “If God has not been faithful to other believers, how can we be sure He will be faithful to us?”
Judging God’s faithfulness.
• The distinction between pity and compassion is subtle, but it is an important one.
• Compassion has to do with caring about the suffering of someone, which is an authentic reflection of love.
• Pity, on the other hand, is sorrow rooted in an assumption of misfortune, which is synonymous with bad luck.
• God is faithful to turn curses into blessings.
• No one can thwart God’s purposes for our lives.
• Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ, and on and on go the biblical reassurances of God’s faithfulness despite our circumstances.
• Because our reliance upon the faithfulness of God is the shield that extinguishes all the flaming missiles of the evil one. If God is always faithful, we are always secure. If God’s faithfulness is sporadic, we cannot live securely.
• Romans 8:28 is God is using every situation as a transport to a place of higher good.
The ultimate good is not anything that God can give to us but who He wants to BE to us. There is nothing better that God can give us than Himself.
• God’s faithfulness is pristine. It is changeless. It is forever.
• Ephesians 6:16 tells us faith in His faithfulness shields us from all the flaming missiles of the evil one.
What To Do to Nurture our Conviction that God is Faithful?
First, be conscious of the temptation. That in itself will help us to avoid it.
Second, remember God’s promises about His faithfulness are true.
And third, consider your own life, how God worked in and through those wilderness experiences to bring you to an oasis or a new land.
Conclusion
We cannot always know what God will do or allow in our lives, but we can always know what He will be, and that is faithful. Hebrews 10:23 (NIV) Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
