Text: “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
If you have placed your faith in Christ and accepted His tremendous sacrifice on Your behalf to make you the righteousness of God, honor Him by always identifying yourself with the righteous in the Scriptures. And do so with thanksgiving to Him for making it so.
Matthew 25 as an example.
–The Ten Virgins
–The financial stewards
–The Sheep and the goats
See yourself as being among those who had enough oil in their lamps to go with the bridegroom. See yourself as one of the wise investors. See yourself as one of the sheep and not one of the goats.
Not because of your performance but because on that cross Jesus fulfilled all the requirements of the Law for us and as a result, we have become the very righteousness of God in Him.
Identify with the righteous because that was the entire point of Jesus death. None of us had enough oil. None of us were smart investors. None of us were kind or compassionate enough with others to meet God’s requirements.
Not to do so is to live in insecurity about whether you have enough oil, whether you have invested wisely enough and whether you have done enough acts of charity to be among the sheep.
Do not despise His gift of grace by focusing on your own performance.
Remember, the work of God is always to believe in the One whom the father sent.
–To glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh.
–To boast in nothing but the cross of Christ.
–No one will enter heaven with some of their sins paid for. The cross is an all or nothing proposition. Either Jesus paid it all, or He didn’t pay enough.
The Role of Good Deeds
It’s like a king patiently teaching his children how to think and behave nobly, in a way befitting of their royal status. He does not do so to make them royalty; He does so because they are royalty. I am set apart for God’s purposes, and day by day He is teaching me what that looks like for me.
