Message Title: Savoring the Savior
Savoring means to enjoy something completely, taking the time to fully appreciate its taste, aroma, or feeling. It’s about being mindful and present in the moment, fully experiencing and relishing it.
Text: Matthew 20:20-28
- Jesus was not directing them to a concept or a principle. He directed them to His example. The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. That is what we are savoring today.

1. Savoring His Connection with Our Felt Needs
- Identifying with the needs and struggles of the people around Jesus.
- Jessus chose to be among the people instead of a CEO.
2. Savoring His Meeting Us Where We Are Spiritually
- He was not repulsed by what is repulsive.
- He embraces the fullness of our humanity and invites us to follow Him into greater joy and purpose.
3. Savoring His Intentional and Determined Sacrifice
- Luke 9:51 – As the day of His ascension approached, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.
- Jesus’s unwavering commitment to His path, fully aware of the suffering ahead.
- Imagine a firefighter running into a fire to save someone. When Jesus died on the cross it was like going into that fire and dying each time He rescued a person.
- The world is on fire. It has been since the fall of man. Jesus came to earth not to put the fire out but to save people from it.
4. Savoring His Ongoing, Transformative Love.
- Satisfaction and Longing:
- Getting to know Him is like reading a great book—satisfied yet eager to read more.
My spiritual quest: “Lord, every day I want to appreciate more the life You died to give me and do so within my specific circumstances, be they pleasant or distressing.” And the Lord is honoring that request, as I express in this prayer of gratitude.
Savoring our Savior is the delight that transforms.
