Subtitle: “Richer Than We Can Imagine and Infinitely More Than I Deserve.”
Text Passage: Ephesians 1:7-8, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us.”
Ephesians 2:7 calls these riches of God’s grace, “surpassing riches.”
I am richer than I ever imagined I could be and infinitely beyond what I deserve to be. And all I can say is thank You!
1. Redemption through His blood.
Romans 7:14 says, “We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.”
We didn’t have enough to pay off our debt. We didn’t have a friend or relative rich enough. That is, not on earth.
“Through His blood” we have forgiveness of sins. Not because He paid off our debt with His blood.
By one sacrifice He paid off all sin for all time (Hebrews 10:14 And offers redemption to anyone and everyone who trusts in Him, who reaches out their hand to heaven and says, God I need Your redemption plan. I need Jesus.
And the Scripture says everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13).
But we have not just been saved from something we’ve been saved to something,
2. Lavishness of God’s grace.
We now live in an atmosphere and environment of amazing grace.
We have gone from prison rags to unsearchable riches.
- Security in God’s love. Instead of fear of judgment (Romans 8:1,39).
- Confidence in His ability to work around or even through our deficiencies and limitations. (2 Corinthians 12:9).
- Perpetual and eternal forgiveness (Hebrews 10:17).
- The privilege of approaching Him at all times with freedom and confidence (Ephesians 3:17).
- The guarantee of being received by Him with mercy and grace (Hebrews 4:16).
- The privilege of being included in His forever family (Ephesians 2:19).
- From the “empty way of life” (1 Peter 1:18-19) to the fullness of life (John 1:16; Colossians 2:10)
- The guarantee of life beyond this one (John 6:40; 1 John 5:11-13).
- We have been granted citizenship in the Kingdom of God, even as we are now temporary residents of earth (Philippians 3:20; Colossians 1:14).
But at the very top of the list of these riches and the Gift from which all of these other gifts flow is the indwelling presence of God Himself by the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5 “rebirth and renewal” by the Holy Spirit.
Sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption (Ephesians 1:13).
The Spirit is the facilitator of all these blessings and the One who makes us aware of them and makes them real to us.
We’ve been redeemed from separation from God by the blood of Jesus and we have been brought into Oneness with Him by the Holy Spirit.
