There’s Just Nobody Else Like Jesus

Text: Hebrews 1:1-3 “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”
Main Idea: We can be confident in our faith because of the One on whom our faith rests.
God spoke through the prophets.
- In Luke 24, after His resurrection, Jesus appeared to two of His disciples on the road to a village called Emmaus and He began with the books of Moses to show them from the Scriptures that He was the one the prophets were writing about.
John 1:14 – “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
There’s just nobody like Jesus, but it’s important to establish that Jesus was actually Somebody. He had a personality. He had a life. He had relationships. He had a job.
- Mark 6:3 – “Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?”
- Luke 24:38-43 – Jesus demonstrates to disciples that he is risen and alive physically – and not as a spirit.
- Acts 1:11 The same Jesus who ascended to heaven will return in the same way.
- Acts 8:55-56,59 – Stephen sees Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
- Acts 26 – The same Saul at whose feet the people laid their garments when they stoned Stephen was on his way to Damascus to persecute other Christians, and he encountered Jesus Himself.
Why is it important to know that Jesus who is like nobody else was a real Somebody? First, because it was important to Him. Second, it gives our faith the proper focus. Faith needs an object. The object for a Christian is the Person Jesus.
Why is there nobody like Jesus? From the text…
I. “Heir of all things”
- Matthew 28 – “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
- Philippians 2:9 He is the name above every other name.
II. “Made the Universe”
- Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made” (Romans 1:20).
- Creation is the work of the Father through the Son.
III. “Radiance of God’s Glory”
- Jesus is literally living glory.
- “flawless expression of the nature of God” (Phillips)
- “Perfect imprint of His Father’s essence” (Amp)
- John 14:9 Jesus: anyone who has seen Me has seen The Father
- Colossians 1:19 “God is pleased to let all His fullness dwell in Jesus.”
IV. He is God’s Final Word
- Matthew 17 – During the transfiguration, “This is my Son, whom I love, with Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him.”
V. He is the Sin Purifier
- After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
- Hebrews 10. Every human priest stands daily ministering and offering sacrifices. Jesus sacrificed Himself once and sat down because once was enough.
- This purification of our sins did not just make us ready for heaven, it qualified us to experience eternal life right now. (Remember 1 John 5:13 – that you may know you have eternal life.)
In its essence, being a Christian is a celebration of a phenomenally generous, shockingly selfless Friend. Jesus Christ, Somebody who is like Nobody Else.
