Text: James 5:17-18 – “Elijah was a man like us…”

The Miracle is never greater than the Miracle-Maker

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 – All the New Creature” things that I am come from God.

1 Corinthians 4:7 “What do you have that you did not receive?”  Just as there is no room for boasting, because it all comes from God, neither is there any reason for despair.

You have just as much reason to hope in God as anyone else in the Scriptures or in the world today.

Hebrews 2:11 – Despite our humanness the Lord is not ashamed to call us his brethren

2 Corinthians 4:7-12 We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
    • We are hard pressed on every side, [our humanness] but not crushed; [God’s grace and power]
    • perplexed, [again, our humanness] but not in despair; (God’s grace]
    • persecuted, but not abandoned; [that’s God]
    • struck down, but not destroyed.
    • We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

We are the miracles. God is the miracle-maker.

Matthew 7:11, “If you then being evil…” Our human capacity for the endearment of a child is dwarfed by how endeared we are to God.

We are instructed to weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice is because that is what the Lord does with us.
    • Isaiah 63:9 – In all their distress He was distressed.
    • 2 Corinthians 11:29 – Paul to the Corinthians “Who is weak and I do not feel weak?”
    • Hebrews 4:14-16 – A most astonishing picture and promise of Jesus’ reaction to our weaknesses. He sympathizes and offers us grace and mercy.

Summary: Trust in the Lord in all your humanness and don’t rely on your own inventory. Yes, Jesus loves us – in all our humanness.
